the 200tdi is more reliable than the later 300tdi and more reliable the 2.5 turbo diesel.

Good choice, now look at the body problems.

it is my boss that i have asked, hes been head gardener at my place for nearly 20yrs and he is a hoarder, there is crap behind all the sheds that needs to be stuck together ! :)

Of course, its reliable - the diesel engines. My mistake, my english is not good. I wanted to say not much more reliable than petrol, maybe not at all. There was a lot of army defenders in my Country during the war in 1990s. We have also very old Lrs and they stil use their diesel engines from 60s, no problems. But, there are petrols from same period and it also still goes. Mine is 2,5 and it works realy nice without problems. I like diesels very much. But this is something special. More power? I dont need it. What for? Do You use it?

I can vouch that 210bhp in a Defender is mucho fun. For on-road acceleration, peace and quiet, for speed: for off road torque spread, for towing, usable rev range, and the sheer noise it makes.
