My freelanders 1.8 litre petrol gauge shows full when empty and empty when full....has anybody else had this issue???? Is it an easy and cheap problem to solve.. already swapped out the petrol sender unit and still same fault...

I'm sure it's got the wrong pump/sender in it. Has the pump been replaced recently?

Knowing the age of the car would help.

The car is a 52 plate (2003) and the pump was replaced I am sure like for like....and it still reads the same.....is there something I have missed and is it something blatantly obvious.....how many different sender/pump units are there???

I believe the way the sander worked was reversed at some point. For instance, one type has a resistance that increase when the tank is filled, but the other type reduces in resistance is the tank is filled. However I can't remember when the change came in, but it would explain the issue you have.

Think the change happened at 2002MY with the new instrument pack with the black dials.

Sounds as if you have the earlier level pump/sender unit and not the later one

You need either WFX000210 for chassis 3A000001 onwards and 2A209163 - 2A359999

Or WFX000190 for 1A333159 to 2A209162 and 2A3600001 to 2A399999

Need to check your VIN to verify

What part number is currently fitted do you know?

Hope these helps

So looking at my vin, it looks as though the wrong part is indeed in the car.....now to go and source the correct part....
