Hey all - going to be redoing my ignition timing in the next couple of weeks but before I do thought I’d see what advance is working best for you all these days.
Previously mine’s always worked best with more than the book says - What degree of advance are you running at??

Not sure about the S3, but my 2A was designed to run on 80 octane with 7:1 compression ratio. With higher octane fuel, you'll want to advance the timing.. start at 6° and go from there

Gave up trying to get to the book, just do it now by feel and ear but it way way more than 6° have had a debate about stretched timing chain or a sprocket tooth distance out of alignment, then the 123electronic distributor drove me nuts because the available curves do not really relate to land rover. Bought a real one from Distributor Doctor ... and woosh! like night n day ..

I've gone to electronic dizzy too (from these guys: https://simonbbc.com) and it made a huge difference. Like simon my advance is set way way more than 6 too but seems to work well (sparks in good condition, no pinking, emissions in mot range etc). I'm just planning to play around and see what more or less might do for top speed & mpg so i'd thought i'd see what others found worked for them before i started.
