Hi all.

Got an odd one with my 300tdi.
Got a recurring issue with my rear wiper and fog light not working.

But it seems to be connected with the ignition.
If the little red ring around the ignition barrel is lit up then my rear fog, rear wiper, rear wash, light left on buzzer and key in ignition buzzer all work.

But lately the little red light hasn't been on and none of the above work.
With the mot looming I need to pull my finger out and try to figure out what on earth was causing it but I was hoping someone on here has experienced this before and has an idea of where to look.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers Chris.

All the problems seem to be connected Wammers, when the red ignition ring is on everything works, when it's off nothing works

Could be ignition then or a relay not being pulled. You will have to look at wiring diagrams.

The red ignition switch illumination is just a simple extension of the interior lighting nothing more, so it will be on with the interior lights and dim in the same way,and only when a door is open, close the door and it will extinguish after a short delay.
Because the four items u have listed plus the interior lights are controlled by the multifunction unit I would check that out, put it into its self diagnostic test to see what happens, the procedure for that has been posted a few times and it in the workshop manual I believe.

Thanks very much for that info discool, would have never known to check that.

Come to think of it had problems with the interior light and boot light not turning off. Maybe that's connected too

Delays for the wipers/washers and headlamp wash control are two more items that are looked after by the MFU.

That illuminating red ring on the switch on a D2 is part of the immobiliser functionality I believe.

Ah I see, mines a D1 so not sure if that's the same or not.
I always thought it was just there to help you see where the ignition was in the dark

It's just that and very bright it is when new, mine's now just a faint glow but it's not needed, I know where the switch is :D
The 300 series D1 has a LED within the dash between the speedo and rev counter giving the indication of the immobiliser activity.

Got a day off next week so along with a service looks like I'll be looking for this MFU and trying to get it to work properly
