Hi all
I have an early 1985 LR90 with 2.25 Petrol Engine. The car was fine this morning driving to work but when I came out it had developed the following problem:
Problem:
With ignition off and key out the Battery Light and Oil Light remain on and the electronic petrol pump continually primes. It's as if the key has turned just prior to starting. It was doing it when I got to it after work. I could hear the pump as I walked over to it.
If I turned the key that worked as it normally would but for a while the key wouldn't turn it back off. I had to stall it. Now, the key turns it off but the lights and pump still operate. The only way I can stop it is by disconnecting the battery.
What I've done:
1. Disconnected all wiring from ignition. Connected battery. Lights and pump operate but car obviously won't start.
2. Removed the starter relay. Same as above.
I've currently got most of the dash off and checking the loom as I did have an issue with a ballast wire frying a few weeks ago. Some of the wiring on the loom has signs of melt on the insulation but none appear to have bared any of the inner wires. But I can't currently see all the wires.
Any ideas from anyone much appreciated as it's currently my only means of getting around.
Cheers

🤣🤣🤣 Cheers. I'll give it a go.
Been messing around with it for most of afternoon and is seems to be ok at the mo. But the but at the back where the connectors attach seems quite loose.

Check it first with a DMM. Don’t take his word for it he’s a cartoon 🤣
But would tend to agree;) As a starting point.

There should be some small screws holding the rear of the barrel where the connectors are onto the barrel casting

You can buy the switch, you don't need to buy the ignition housing, need to take it out though I think

Hi all
Thanks for the responses.
One of the screws was missing that holds the switch in place. Must have worked it's way out. I got a new switch anyway and fitted it and all seems good so far but I'll let you know if there's any more issues.

I had a good check of the loom behind the dash and dash shelf. The wire that fried was a ballast wire which appears to have been retro fitted as it ran alongside the loom but was fastened outside the loom protective covering. There are signs of melt along the wires but none appear to have been exposed. However, I can't see clearly the loom running along the engine compartment side of the bulkhead and behind the cover in the bulkhead where it goes into the vehicle. So I can't discount there being an issue there but I'll do further checks when I have time.
Cheers everyone so far. Much appreciated.
