I was briefly contemplating about buying a new Defender one day... perhaps...just possibly.

I've been following this series and it really doesn't fill me with confidence.

First one needs a new engine after 170 miles, second one rendered irrepairable...

There's already a running post about this, been going since they started the vids on the new fender they purchased.

Get a real one or wait until the new ones are 50k miles in and all the bugs are sorted / obvious. If they have a lot of electronic problems the used values will tank so there could be some bargains in a couple of years. You may have to wait 5 years as I believe JLR are selling with 5 yr warrenty. But I predict once out of warrenty they will be appreaciably cheaper than the "old" Defender because the tech will be so costly to keep going, it will be a lottery, get a good one - very happy, get a dog, money down the drain.

I reckon it will be to late for the new defende rto find love in land rover circles, the D3 is only just being accepted by enthusiasts 15 odd yrs since its launch, so by the time the new defender prices come down I doubt combustion engines will have to much of a future.

Any pics? of the car not your friend!

Nope , But a very nice dark silver ( eiger grey) on gloss black trim, exterior, with a black interior, looks classy.

Not something I would take off road to play, but apparently the 3ltr petrol engine is a beast ,but then that is what the 90 is for.

Cheers

I have a real one, if by real you mean the previous defender :) but for me it isn't a daily driver. I have a D4 which is perfect for me but will eventually need to be replaced.

Its very impressive tech but I feel its crossed a line of complexity that I'm not comfortable with. OK if its on a lease contract but as an outright buy I would feel very exposed. I know JLR are pushing 5 year warrenties but we all know that a £25k broken crank will get swapped in the 1 st year or two but at 4 yrs 11 mo? If I was going to buy serious tech and deal with my fears I would do it for someting with a future, my personal favourite is the Cybertruck - but its not looking like we will get it in the UK.
