Hello,

I've been boring you with chassis questions for a couple of days, so here's the last one  !

My chassis doesn't really need replacing, most of it is in really good nick, but there are a few holes in certain places which obviously haven't seen any waxoyl in years. So far I've managed to find 2 fairly big holes.

If I grind them down to good metal and then weld a patch over, will this restore it well, or will the metal continue to corrode underneath?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

It will certainly help. The only way to repair a chassis or any other rusty area is to cut out the metal and butt weld the new section in that way you do not have a water trap between overlapped panels.

not many repairers will have the skill's to do it the proper way, take care and have a look at some of there previous work if at all possible

Thats what i'm on with now cutting out the rusty bits and welding new pieces in! its never ending :( i had it shot blasted so that poke a few holes through it but at least i now know where its rotten :)

go to a metal fabricating firm , not your average joe mobile welder geezer.
where exactly are the holes? any pics?
