Hi all,
Sods law, just about to go off to Brittany for a week or so and passenger side front window has suddenly stopped working. I have changed the fuse just in case bit no joy. All the other windows work fine as does the central locking on all doors, does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to fix this issue, any advice greatly appreciated

Assuming you are talking about a P38,it's usually the switch in the switch pack. the switch pack can be dismantled and the faulty switch assembly removed to clean the contacts. If the window is open, it can be closed using the lazy locking feature. lock the car with the FOB and keep the lock button depressed until the window starts to close.
 
Thanks Data, it is actually a 2006 L322 but I think the switch gear is the same. I will have a go with contact cleaner but fear the problem might be water that has come down from the sun foof and affected the loom that runs along the passenge side sill as I used the sunroof for the first time this year! I hope it isn't but will find out tomorrow.
 
The L322 has the same lazy locking, also keeping the unlock button pressed opens all the windows and sunroof.
 
Mine has rear drivers side not working too, mine doesn’t work from main switch or that door, so I’m guessing it could be motor? Not had chance to pull door card off and have a look.

More likely to be a connector or wiring problem than the motor.
 
Just went out to take a look today at my window problem, there is a noise of an actuator or whatever coming from inside the door when the switch is selected from the drivers cluster and the actual passenger switch. So I will take the door card off and have a look I fear this is going to get messy!
 
Having taken the door card off and given everything a blast of switch cleaner I can say the problem is NOT in the switches, however after ordering a spare 2nd hand switch and window regulator at a bargain price I realised that the fault was probably in the loom located in the passenger well. It is a little scary when first confronted by the loom, mmine is a hotch potch of connectors and splicing, very untidy! Tomorrow I am going to 'clean up and resplice those wires that look most suspicious, but I believe the problem, which is caused by water ingress from the sun roof drain, has mostly affected the three black wires that have grey stripes. So much of the wiring looks 'crusty' I think I am going to be a busy boy in the sun! Will post pics and result after the work carried out, fingers crossed.

As there is an audible click emanating from the door itself when the release button is selected on either the driver's cluster or the passenger switch itself, I am of the opinion that the switch needs replacing or maybe the regulator itself. Fortunately I have both items arriving in a couple of days and have just acquired a decent test kit so we shall see what happens. At least I have already taken the door card off, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to take it off again. Will post update, hopefully positive, in the next couple of days.

Agreed. Mine wouldn't work from the main switch assembly but would work from the rear door. First time I tried it. Second time I tried it, it wouldn't work from either but I'm really suspicious that it could be the motor.

Rivet in the window assembly might have slipped out so the mechanism is jamming?

Hi, looking at your picture and reading your thread I would be suspicious of the earth point at the bottom of the A pillar, the fact that you get a click and then nothing would sound like a connection not working under load and on your picture I can see that at least one of the wires is showing a bit of "green"around it. being as you had the sunroof issue condensation is a big problem around that area. at the very least by removing the connectors cleaning and checking for a "good" earth if its not the solution then you can rule it out.
 
Thanks for the reply, I am going to do exactly what you suggested. I am going to undo the earth point connection and give the area a good clean with 1000 wet and dry and then contact spray. If that doesn't work at least I can eliminate that cause, as you pointed out the fact that there is a click indicates it might well be a connection issue and neither the switch gear nor the regulator....here's hoping!

Thanks for the diagram, I shall use it to investigate further. Unfortunately the earth cleaning didn't help but the parking mirror facility returned after the garage fitted the new upper and lower suspension arms. I didn't get them to scan or do further work because of the potential cost involved, I hadn't planned on using a garage to do suspension but my back is in an awful state and just cannot work under vehicle, but I am ok with stuff that is accessable from above. I was worried about the cost of doing the suspension arms but in the end it was £300 less than the independent range rover place near me quoted, but still a very painful £525 including the dreaded VAT!
I have already replaced the passenger side electric window switch but still no joy, I have the replacement regulator to fir if I want but am still convinced the fault lies in a connection, so today I am going to 'forensically' investigate ALL the relevant fuse box connections and then work from there towards the actual regulator with my newly acquired test kit, so here's hoping!
 
On the L322 the drivers door switch has god knows going on inside it and this can often be at fault, had a X5 E53 drivers windows not opening or closing and it turned out to be the switch pack, if you can borrow one and try it but when you fit it there is a proceedure if it does not work first time where you keep door open and then close before trying the window whilst standing on your head whistling god save the king.................BMW design BMW US tech where they have to make windows so much more of a pain, all symptons on here point to drivers window switch.
