Morning,

been looking for parts for my defender but to be honest its a minefield!!! there are so many suppliers online, ebay etc. but all with different quirks, e.g. VAT not displayed on parts, varying postage costs, no one has all the things i need etc.

who are your go-to parts suppliers with good delivery times, good delivery prices, best prices/selection etc.

i've looked at john craddock, paddock spares, LRparts, SP etc.

cheers in advance

Steve

There was a recent thread on this, have a search there was loads of suggestions

Jl services in willenhall are ok. Not sure if they deliver. Twinwoods as well, run by a forum member I think

cheers, i'll have a look. JLS isn't far from me but they don't list parts on their website i don't think, but i'll check them out. cheers

You won't get everything from anywhere but I have found I can get pretty much everything from Paddocks. Just bump up the order for free postage, you will always need something else, think ahead.
Another oil filter, fuel filter , few gaskets, there is always something.

It is a bit of a minefield and there are a range of qualities available which are sometimes not indicative by their price.

Some Britpart stuff is good.
Some isn't.
Some sellers sell you a part and don't tell you it's Shitpart, some sellers sell you a part and then don't have it in stock.
Some have silly shipping prices, some are reasonable.
Sometimes its easier and cheaper to buy on eBay (especially small things).
Most Landrover direct spares are priced so high I wonder if its because they don't want to sell anything.

Border Holdings Limited owns most of the 'parts suppliers' these days.

if you are specific about what bits you need you will get the experience of the forum members to help you make the right choice.
I've bought some real crap over the last 20 (ish) years i've owned Defenders.

I look on LRParts and LRDirect and eBay and I ask on here.

I don't believe you. Parts buying for LR's is easy. Yes there is lots of choice. As for VAT not VAT, that has nothing to do with it being Land Rover parts. Very surprised a single supplier doesn't have all you need unless you are looking for oddball bits. But even so, does it matter if you order from multiple people?

With over 33 million cars in the UK, part buying and maintenance is an everyday occurrence for tens of thousands of people.

Trying to get parts is a nightmare. As most above say. You may get a nice order going with Paddocks but then they don't stock some obscure bit but Craddocks do. Then the rest of the stuff you want is more expensive at Craddocks but they do stock it. Do you pay postage on the single item? Can turn a £2 part into a £8 part. Don't get me started on the random quality of some parts as well. If you're on a budget especially it can frustrate you to death. If you've got a lot of money and time maybe you don't have to worry.

Seriously no. There are so many places to choose from. Lots offer free shipping over a certain value or just check out ebay for single items. FFS if parts where rare with only 1 or 2 places, you would HAVE to pay whatever they want and their shipping. Anyone moaning about buying LR parts is frankly off their rocker!

My rocker is still nice and firmly attached thanks and i'm telling you that I don't always find it easy to get all the parts I want, at reasonable quality, at reasonable prices, with reasonable shipping when I want them. Unless you have tried to order the exact parts I wanted, at the exact time I wanted them then you wouldn't know about what difficulties I had. FFS.

Well I have ordered a lot of parts over the years. I run and maintain a p38 RR, 19J Ninety, Td4 Freelander and a heavily modified 88 coiler.

My brother also has a 200Tdi Ninety and a 2.5 VM RRC and my uncle 2 x FL2, an L405 and 7 Defenders ranging from a B plate diesel, C plate factory V8 and a couple of Puma's.

I have not known any parts to be particularly challenging to purchase.

Could you cite some of the parts you have had difficulties ordering?

I live about 20 minutes away from Rimmer Bros so wish I could get more from them. Trouble is they are way more expensive most of the time. It's still just britpart parts at the end of the day. They used to be cheap enough for MG parts when I had my midget but that was a long time ago.

Avoid ALLMAKES / TERRAFIRMA / BEARMACH utter garbage!

Island 4x4, LR Series LRdirect never had a problem bought loads etc

paddock / craddock never have any stock and post it three days later when they do.

That’s interesting. I thought Bearmach were supposed to be ok.
