Hi all,

Stange one but does anyone know the rating of the Throttle potentiometer for the Discovery 1 300tdi EDC on a 97 plate? This is for part number STC 4389

I have the occassional EML light appear when using the throttle when acelerating up a hill and its finally been put to this part. It's normally injector number 4 but that was all ok.

Problem is its £300 for a 4 pin potentiometer. I wondered if anyone knew what value it was and if anyone had just soldered in another one?

Part number STC 4389

Thanks,

Ben

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot of specialist knowledge for the EDC system. Apparently some other cars run a similar system, possibly Vw. Perhaps try a general EDC search to see what turns up. I bought a manual pump for mine as a backup as I previously had to scrap another edc auto because of an intermittent fault which was never solved. Do you know an electronics expert who could read and understand the system?

HI Ben,
Did you get any further with this ?
I'm experiencing the same problem but not just when under load. Even in neutral as soon as the revs reach 2000 to 2500 rpm the engine check flashes on and revs drop back to idle. A quick push on the pedal and the light goes out and we're back to normal.
The problem isn't at a precise point of pedal travel or an exact point of revs. This video for testing a P38 potentiometer might prove useful. Although the wiring isn't identical it explains the process of testing the resistance. In my case the resistance range is smooth and there are no drops during pedal travel.
Couple of questions :
How did you eliminate the #4 injector ?
How did you establish that it was the potentiometer ?

Hi. Being with EDC you should start by reading the fault code rather than guessing cos for that symptom there can be many things, IMO if it was the TPS the fault would be permannent, seems more like overboost... try to find somebody with hawkeye or similar before you spend money on a TPS

take a look at the flap in the airflow meter and see if it is sticking at any point

Currently looking for someone with Hawkeye here in SW France !

The EGR was blanked of years ago and the MAF is therefore redundant on the EDC system (plugged/unplugged absolutely no difference)

Just looked it up and thats a new one on me, but I am currently working on a1993 edc engine at work and that had no air flow meter to start with, mind you it has no egr either.
