hi im looking for advice from any one who's brought/fitted a new britpart gulv chassie. like are thay anygood . i live in norway and the only chassie i can buy in norway is from brittpart. if i order one from the uk from richards of any of the other supplyers im looking at a shiping cost's of £700 to £1000 plus import tax of 25% on the chassie and the shipping :mad::mad: i can get the brittpart one for about £2200 so im looking at a ton of cash what ever i do :mad::mad:

Any advice ??

Call them and ask who make's there chassie
 
Richards are meant to be the best full stop.
They also make year/model specific ones for your car with all the correct details, if thats important to you.
2200 for britpart chassis i would be looking elsewhere.

be cheaper to weld up your current one or get a local firm to make one from dimensions shown in the series parts manual…..

Not in norway if i get a welder to patch it up im looking at about £1000 and thats for cash the time and metal cost about 3 times more than what they would cost in the uk ive got a buddy who welds and he said if i can get a gulv one for £2000 go for it i could end you paying some one to do the same again in a few years when the rest of the chassie has roted from the inside out!! and if im going to do all the work of a resto its only going to be the one time my wife hates the landy allready and ive only just started:)

he he i can do many things my self but welding is not one and i have a enough to do pluss when you add up the cost of the equpiment £350 for the welder £150 for refill of gas £1 a day rent for the bottle with a year as the min contract you soon get up to half the cost of the chassie norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world :eek:

£150 for a refil :eek::jaw::jaw::eek:
 
Its not a cheep place to work on car's in fact its not a cheep place to do anything £3 a loaf of bread £9 a beer in a bar £50 a bottle of cheep spirites i should probley just drive the landy back to uk pay someone else to fix it up and drive it back again:) not as much fun but i may get to send my kid to uni that way

Well that's put me off Norway for me hols.

After reading this thread...this would get my vote, this way you get your Richards chassis and any other bits at a reasonable price, If you just get the chassis and bulkhead done, with any specialist work you feel you cant do then most of the work is just labour to do the swap, you can finish the project at home doing the small stuff and Mech bits on your own. Once finished it would still be your project and I am assuming would fetch a reasonable price, which reflects the restoration costs, Based on the local market. Hey and you get Two short break hollidays in the sunny UK, just in time for the Jubelimpics.

OOOOps forgot to say, on the return trip you could load up at TESCO's with £4 wine,£1.22 per litre beer, £20 spirts and £1 loafs of bread, in fact your whole weeks shopping, at those prices you could almost subsidise the whole resto, even the wife might enjoy the short break. and the cheaper shopping. not that I think Tescos is best, just easiest, ASDA might be cheaper....up to you dude:rofl:
 
:scratching_chin:On a completely different Tack, get it rebuilt in Poland or one of the EX eastern-block countries, There are people from the UK having there classics's rebuilt over there because they are cheaper than here. Do a web search, but strikes me the transport and labour costs would be cheaper and You could order the chassis you want and have it delivered to them from the UK, (EU so no import duties). :cool: All in all I have watched a couple of programs on the TV where they got quite a good write-up. the work quality was fine, all they said was do your homework and give the garage that's doing the work clear instructions as exactly what you want and expect, get a quote....:scratching_chin::)
