Hi, Im looking to get parking sensors for my 2001 freelander. Seen some on ebay for bout £20 that you can fit yourself, kind that work of the reverse light wiring. Has anyone fitted these - are they easy to fit. Also can you get to the wiring from the boot. and if so how does the wiring from the sensers themselves, outside on the bumber, connect to the wiring of the reverse light, inside the boot

it is dead easy - the power is taken from the reversing light circuit. yu get into boot on off side. most difficult bit is drilling holes on correct place. will post typical instructions later.

Fitted a genuine set to 'Project Freelander' the yellow wire behind the left hand boot plastic is a positive feed to the reversing lights.

can't you just either.....

A) learn to drive instead?

or

B) fit a towbar and double step 'just in case' instead of a beep when you get close you just stop when you hear the crunch!

They are very handy when reversing upto your fibreglass garage door and stopping close enough to prevent spare wheel removal, but far enough to save crushing the door!!

Please dont park near me with your double step!!

Thanks, that would be handy. Yeah, never thought Id need them but our work car park has a double parking scheme going on and it can be a nightmare. Might be a silly question, but do you have to disconnect the battery to install them.

Hi folks
sorry about delay in replying.
the power is taken from the reversing light circuit.
The ground is attached to any suitable earthing point.

I have supplied the wiring data at the rear of the hippoo for the reversing lights, and here is a typical reversing sensor installation diagram..

No yu dont need to disconnect power, but I suggest yu dont have the ignition on and in reverse gear whilst trying to do the installation

where are yu based, Davismit? change ya cp to show it.

I didn't disconnect the power to fit mine.

Hi Im in Liverpool. Ill update my details.

How do you earth to a suitable point. Is this on the wiring loom were the live wire is or against a peice of metal somewhere.

How did you wire in the live wire - did you use a connector.

suitable earthing point is any metal fixing such as a screw or bolt. You can also connect in to the black (i think) wire on the lighting circuit as I mentioned earlier. |The easiest way of connecting in to the reversing light for power and the black earth wire would be to use Scotchlock connectors. Personally I dont like them, but they are convenient.
