Missus has asked if it is possible to fit parking sensors to the P38. Cannot see why not? Questions:

Is the BECM going to get confused if I take a feed off the reversing switch?

How solid is that rear bumper? I was thinking of hiding the sensors slightly underneath.

Thoughts?
 
They were already fitted to mine when I got it, 1996 4.6V8 HSE. Worked well until they didnt but not had time to find out why they stopped. Was no camera just a beep that got quicker as you got close. Are mounted in back bumper.
 
Should work then!

Plenty of cheap kits on the bay, especially considering she's already scratched a brand new bumper!
 
I have reversing sensors.. They done even interact with the BeCM..

I have the distance display, and with my pin and ball towbar it's handy..

Instructions for fitting.

Remove the rear bumper.. dont do it with the bumper on as you will invariably choose a spot where the mounting brackets sits behind. mark up the spots to drill evenely spaced from both top and bottom, and at matching disnaces from teh centerline. drill a pilot hole. the hole cutter that comes with the kits will get through the bumper iron. drill from the inside out not outside in. clean off the plastic debris, fit the sensors in the hole. with a marker pen label each sensor 1,2,3,4.push each cable trhough the top hat into the bodywork, remove the panel in the boot and pull the wires through. Plug each cable into the box in order.. 1,2,3,4.splice the reversing light cable with the power to the reversing sensor box and earth the black cable. remount the bumper cable using cable ties to prevent the sensor cables dropping down.

If you have a display unit, what i did was use balck double sided 3m tape on the bottom of the display (i dont like holes drilled in the dash) and affixed to the right of the binnacle between the A pillar and the binnacle, tuck the cable into the droor trim, down across the bottom of the door, and under the trim of the rear door, fold the seat down and tuck the cable under the carpet and up to the box. plug in the display.

and that's it. it takes no more than an hour with the caveat, that if your bumper torx heads are corroded.. you'll have to get those out. it's worthwhile ordering a couple of replacement ones and putting those in rather than the old corroded ones. and put some copper grease on the threads too.

oh and lay some cardboard down or a an old blanket for the bumper when it comes off.

I stuck my display on to top of interior mirror with double sided tape, sit`s quite nice there I thought.
 
Easy-peasy. Bumper only been back on a few years so should be easy. :)

Might even get an 8 sensor kit and do the front too.

Wammers, it already has the full swan-neck tow-bar and double electrics. How she managed it I'll never know.

Seen the camaras. Make sure you get the right type. On my Jag it is RGBsync that you need and the sat-nav screen is NTSC not PAL. Someone did a nice write up on a Jag forum. Don't know what they put in the Rangie.
 
Just opened your link. Looks like the Rangie is the same as the Jag.
 
So you think a risiing rate beepng noise will avoid bumps..........good luck with that :)
They are handy if your sitting in standing traffic and see in your mirror that your going to be tail ended, throw it in reverse and it will give you an idea of the time to impact.:rolleyes::)
 
A belated entry - our P38 had them fitted when we bought it. And was suffering from a flat battery if not used every couple of days. We had to jump start it so often we caused problems with the BECM - so bad that when you started it every single alarm on the car went off and we had to put the vehicle in to get the BECM reprogrammed. When we got it back the guys at Hitchin asked if we'd been suffering battery troubles only the +ve feed for the unit had been taken direct from the BECM somehow. So they had disconnected it. No more reverse warning - and no more flat battery!

Sounds like all you need is a +ve supply that is live only when the ignition is on, then you shouldn't get flat battery and you will have reverse warning.
 
I have them on mine, they were fitted when i bought it but the display was tucked away in the rear quarter so i positioned it above the rear view mirror. Will take a look at the wiring for mine if your stuck.

Planning on putting mine on the rear high intensity brake light cover.

Indeed - it is on the list of things to do. But rather low now the flat batteries have stopped :)
