Hi i have a major problem i was driving my brothers 57 plate discovery today. i parked the vehicle and when i came back to it and started it up there was a horrendous squealing noise and i cant move it forwards or backwards its a tdv6 automatic a message appeared on the dash something like parkbrake fault, system not functual. does anyone know how i can get it going again so as to get it to the garage thanks.

Just behind the park brake lever there is a little almost square shaped plastic blanking plate. If you force it up with a thin knife blade/ screwdriver for example you will find a loop of wire. Pull on it very hard as this is the emergancy parking brake release and it should work.

The other option is someone with Hawkeye, or one of the Blackbox solutions diagnostioc kits , or Landrover themselves plugging in there laptops and using that to release it.

I have heard about itbeing a common fault but I never knew abot this...

thanks for the advice. i found this on the internet and it worked TURN IGNITION ON. DEPRESS FOOTBRAKE THREE TIMES AND HOLD DOWN ON THIRD DEPRESSION.SWITCH HANDBRAKE ON FOUR TIMES. SWITCH HANDBRAKE OFF THREE TIMES AND HOLD DOWN ON THIRD. HANDBRAKE ICON WILL FLASH. TAKE YOUR HANDS AND FEET AWAY FROM BRAKES NOW TURN ON ENGINE AND DONT USE HANDBRAKE UNTIL YOU GET IT CHECKED. This worked for us today so now just have to find a good landrover mechanic in Edinburgh to have a look at it as i dont know how long it will last or what the problem was. Well at least my brother is as i have a freelander so i hope this is helpfull Now i will go back to the wee freelander forum. Thanks again.
