Just under the windscreen and the bonnet are these two plugs (I guess) - near the air inlet filter foam.

Does anyone know what they are for (one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side)?

Okay, that sounds about right!!! No real need for it in Australia then! Should have thought of that! Can't think of anything else - assume that would be an accessory and a switch would be installed in the vehicle! Silly me, just intrigued me all this time and I didn't really stop to think!

Yes heated screen and / or you can link heated washer jets in as a modification.

Heated washer jets??? My d1 has heated screen, and yes into those plugs, can I get heated jets for mine?

I think the Freelander 2 has heated jets that fit the Disco 2 but you have to wire them up obviously.

They were a later fitment to D3 / D4 but same fit as D2
