I am just curious to know the best way around changing the colour of a land rover 90 (1986). Can I buy the paint and brush it on with a little preperation, or should it be sprayed? Would I be better getting it done propperly and how much do you recon it'd cost!?

Thanks in dvance for any help!

yer should o just parked it next to yellas series last weekend ;) :D

If its done proper ie windows out, engine out etc then its going to cost a few thousand for a spray shop to do.

My 90's paintwork isnt great and when I asked the painters at one of the garages I work for they also said be wary of the colour you choose cos a lot of colours really show up the dinks ie black.
And due to the panels corroding you are better off replacing them before painting.

All adds to the cost.:(

Engine out is a bit extreem for a respray, yes technicaly the bulkhead would get painted if ALL body colour things were getting done, but at the end of the day its a LR, the bulkhead is usually covered in oil and filth to see anyway, with some good time spend on masking a LR, due to its relativly simple fittings etc it can be done in a garage with proper preperation and paints for about £200.

I was quoted 600 in a body shop if I dealt with the rust/door corrosion.

thur folks on here acheived a good finish with the old roller. cheap and quick. try a search fer it before you go to all the trouble of a respray

good tips boys. ive got to do all 3 doors on my 90. ive been trying to match the paint up with the original but its a load of bollox. i will prob have to do the whole thing! nevermind. im sure i will sort my truck color issues out soon enough ;)

look ear dawggy boy. i have serious issues wiff folk using the wurd issues when they really mean problems.

ah bet you wur an issue child

i resprayed mine
engine and all the rest was already out for overhoul so it was easier to spray teh bulkhead. (i wouldn't have taken out the engine just for spraying the bulkhead).

i've posted some pics in the gallery department;) there is one pic where you can see te base coat.and a few more when it's finished
