hi folks am in the process of preping my landy 90 and wondered what peoples thoughts were on painting the motor? would you paint it with the spats cills doors on etc. just thinking wings need paint on them dont they but some seem to paint with spats on?

cheers lee

That is the lazy persons approach to leave the wheel arches on.

The paint will crack at this joint and itll look crap. Take them off... and the doors and do a proper job.

Not like the bodger in my hamlet who painted the entire thing... including the door seals!
Even offered to paint mine for me for £200! (Ill pass)

I've done it both with things left on and loads of masking tape and things stripped off

No doubt the latter gives the better result, but then not always looking for a 'show room shine' on a 20 year old Landy!

anyone any idea how ya mix your paint and what you put in it say for instance your using 2k do you just mix this with thiners and apply or does it need an hardener in it too? and also what do you put in the acid etch primer and high build primer?

I would ask the place where you planning on getting your paint from
but defo harder in the 2k but other than that i have no idea

theres a company on ebay called jawell paints i think it is. there selling a synthetic oil based direct gloss for just over 30pound for 2.5 litres and have said this will be suitable for a landy but the sample they have sent is still soft on the plastic card they have put it on? you can press your finger nail into and make an indent?
anyone on here any ideas?

Lee I think station house maybe talking about brush painting?
But that's also why I use 2k. If I paint something late one evening, I can be fitting it no worries the next morning.

If you're going down the 2k route then ensure you use the correct mix ratio (1:1, 2:1 plus thinner etc), it should tell you in the tds. You won't get the correct results otherwise. For etch primer, this is for bare metal re spray and only use if you are confidant at getting a low dry paint thickness, too much etch will effect the next coat; you will end up with an excess of acid with nowhere to go, this will effect the cure of the next coat of primer or topcoat. Also for your health ensure you have a mask that filters out Isocyanides - I'll let you google their effects on your health. Good luck and yes, preparation is 90% of the work.
