I have read lots about spraying and rollering. I don't have a compressor but I can borrow one but its only 25L. If I were to spray my defender, It would be in metallic oslo blue and if I were to roller it it would be coniston green. Bearing in mind the car is in bits at the moment, Which would be easier to achieve the best finish and what's the difference in surface preparation?

Metalic need steady pressure and decent cfm snd tank size.

Coniston green it is, have practice before painting

Thanks, Also it is an 89 so it would be keeping the car more original and i'd rather have a good finish with a solid colour than a very poor metallic finish

Iv just painted an old rice horsebox as it needed tidying up and I must say its come out a lot better then I thought !! And cheep too !!
I used a DA to key it up a bit then spayed it useing a cheep spray gun & a small 25 ltr compresser for paint I used gloss & petrol mix of 2 to 1
"Good luck"

You can get a decent finish spraying with a flat colour , metallic and lacquer is a lot harder

Mine didn't come out great , the one thing with the defender is they're easy to prep, the ally is rippled when they come out of the factory so small dents go unnoticed

Got my defender in bits also at the moment, got a full respray on the cards in the original Arles Blue Solid. Will be using either a 25 or 50ltr compressor and 2pack paint. Bought etch primer but I doubt i'll use it, just key the existing paint to suit. Got a pack of medium and fine scotchbrite pads and ordered a pack of 800grit snading discs for orbital sander, going to get a pack of 1000grit too.

Im also after any advice anyone can offer me re: prep and spray work without starting a thread on whats possibly been covered already :)
