Hi everyone,
I am just looking into the possibility of painting galvanised parts on my defender and it seems a pretty complicated process to an inexperienced plainer like myself! The cleaning priming and painting process seems well beyond my capabilities. I was browsing google the other day and came across galvacoat. Has anyone used it or had any experience with it? It looks almost too good to be true

Degrease, mordent wash and use standard paint. Done my chassis and bulkhead 12 years ago or so.
All still stuck.

As said, you just use etch primer and then top coat in what ever colour you want, what exactly is it you want to paint?

It sounds as if you want top paint something already on your vehicle. If so you are in a better position, as 6 months weathering has the same effect as the mordant. I would still use the mordant as a precaution, but you are more likely to be successful if you are not relying on it alone.

The main bit I will be painting is the new galvanised bulkhead I am getting but I also have a few other bits I want to paint. Not had any experience spraying and I would like to do it myself if possible so is it still possible to etch primer, prime and paint with brush and roller? If not I might have to see the local body shop and see if they fancy the job. Any idea on a ball part figure to get a galv bulkhead sprayed?
