Hi all, this is a question about suitable paint for my series 3. I mentioned to somebody the other day that I was thinking of hand painting it and he turned around and said that I would have to use special paint. He seemed to think that some paints have a chemical reaction with the aluminium of the body.
Is he talking clap trap, or can I use normal paint?

try doing a search for paint but ignore the one about "how to prep and paint" as it ****. if you go to bare metal you need a special primer otherwise yer paint will fall orf

you can use normal paint but you need to use etch primer beforehand. as most paints won't stick to the aluminium. try this site for some good tip/advice. vehicle painting pointers
 
i used tekaloid enamel, hamilton brushes , etching primer etc etc , what a b'stard of a job that was , never again.
each panel took 4 coats of enamel , 3 of primer. it took weeks as i could only do a couple of panels at a time and tekaloid has a 16 hour drying time , 24 hours if you intend to rub down between coats.

Yes but it did look nice when it was done.
