Thinking about what my next jobs are to do on my defender...the paint on it isn't too bad, but the lacquer is peeling in sheets from the roof.

Is there a way I can re lacquer it without having to respray? I guess it would be hard to get all of the lacquer off.

I know as a Range Rover owner it's a bit cheeky of me to make a suggestion but have you thought of putting a colour coded vinyl wrap on the roof to cover up the problem or even rubbing the roof back and roller painting it in a suitable contrasting gloss colour instead.

Before you dismiss the idea I am putting a satin vinyl wrap on my RR roof to protect it from weather damage and the inevitable knocks etc it will receive when using the roof rack I'll be fitting shortly.

On a previous Disco 300tdi I had the same problem with the bonnet. After rubbing down and preparing it I used a roller to paint the bonnet in the same colour and then put out a clear gloss protective vinyl wrap on the bonnet.

Just a couple of thoughts.

I rolled by bonnet in satin black. Looks great. Need to do the roof tho, and it looks quite a complex shape to wrap. How much do you estimate it will be?

Who are you asking? James has sold his defender and the other bloke hasn't logged on since 2014
