and may struggle pulling a horse box with a couple of good sized nags in it.

freelander 1 of course, and cheaper running costs, looks better aswell, and can remove the roof of the 3 door.

When a Feelander can tow as much as a Range Rover they might be worth considering. As it stands, all you can tow with a Freelander is a damp packet of Quavers.

Is that an empty packet?

Beat me to it Bix!

Howardo, as for the same difference comment the Freelander II is an entirely new model sharing very little with the original car - surely you should know that?

FFS Howardo - give it a rest - to suggest a Freelander 1 is in the same league as a P38 for towing is beyond stupidity. Freelanders - especially 3 door ones with the roof off - are much better at giving male hairdressers a more butch image - at that particular task the P38 cannot compete.

P38's can tow more than a freelander never disputed that. Rangerover classics and l322 are nice looking vehicles. The P38 is an abomination against design and engineering, it is awful.

Horses for courses - I think the P38 is the best looking Rangie - that's what's stopped me buying an L322 - I don't particularly like the look of them, and the 5 door classic always looked like an afterthought - I had one and never really liked it. As for the design (rather than style) front, what's wrong with the P38? Tried and tested ladder-frame chassis, an EAS system also found on late classics - pretty standard LR fare.

You can remove the roof of any Freelander 1. With a hand grenade.

My P38 currently SORN'd, and I'm under pressure to let it go. Totally ****ed off with this prospect, which has arisen from the need to watch the pennies. And this due to the fact that most schools around here are in special measures, with crap OFSTED reports and too many kids crammed in. Have had one son let down by the education system already, I'll be damned if my other son will suffer the same. So the possibility of having to fund private schooling is growing every day. Or move house to get to a better state school. Either way, the weekend car RR looks doomed at the moment.

Bollocks. Which design and engineering features? Having been a design engineer all my life, can't really say I've come across that many 'as designed' abominations on a P38. Possibly on the £30k Merc I once had, which was **** in comparison.

Hmmm - our farrier had one of the early Freelanders. It spent as much time in the garage as on the road! Thankfully, by the time the warranty had run out I think it had most stuff replaced... He's on is second one, but still seems to have to reschedule at least one visit a year because of car problems (he only visits every 6 weeks). Are they really any better?

Data.

for interest, what would you replace the p38 with, if you had a spare £30k?

best wishes

(you can send me a pm if you like!)
