Is it possible to put a non egr engine in the later 99 onwards P38 without much hassle or is it a case that loom and ecu are all different ? There seems to be a lot more early engines for sale than later ones, and egr's are a pain and normally get blanked off anyway ;)

Engine loom and ecu will be different but easily swapped fuse box is different from early and late but i have know idea as to if that effects the engine, i would try and stick with a late one as the whole lump will be newer and hopefully lower mileage.

I know the fuse boxes are different as I have an early and late P38 just didn't know if it would be a case of of the engine loom being different and swapping a engine with loom or if it would be the whole lot to go with it if that's the case will find a egr engine

The late engine loom has the extra head temp sensor which could be fitted and i believe a maf sensor, you may well be able to sod around and swap bits over but the inlet manifold will not fit .

The early engine will go in with the late ECU but you have to keep the early manifold as in most cases the drillings for the later plastic manifold are not present in the head.

Some swap just the head and associated bits over. Still a potch satisfying every system and they tend to be problematic when it does play up. Especially when it’s with a new owner by then and they have no idea about it

Did that in mine. It went straight in. Only thing is your wiring loom does not have connector for AT in manifold, the MAF sensor replaces this reading. The EGR thingy on bulk head is just blanked off

Don't recollect fuse box or anything else being swapped

Cheers chaps just opens up options as soon as my nanocom arrives and I can get my early one running again the later one will be having its engine pulled as it has a rather large amount of piston blowby and is getting a bit sluggish especially when it sees a hill and the oil gets thick between services so think a bit of tlc is required

well i managed to find an engine yesterday , was about 75 miles away from me so took the tired steed to go and get it just need to get round to swapping it now , still waiting for my nanocom to arrive to sort the other one out so think i will be waiting for that first and get the other one going just incase i end up with 2 that dont run , im not sure why i do it to myself my jobs list is geting rather long o_O

I'd just make a great one from the both, sell off the parts you don't need and recoup some money. Small list, one car and money back. Simple matey :p:D;)
