The new crankshaft position sensor arrived today so I fitted it and im pleased to say my P38 fired up straight away and is running smoother than before. The old one must have failed on start up, shutting off the fuel and ignition systems. Although it gave me the same symptoms as the loss of sync issue I had, I wouldn't have been able to rule that possibility out without the syncmate and wouldn't have gone down the crankshaft position sensor route.
 
Yes, without some sort of diagnostic to rule out electronic gremlins you're never sure. Glad it is sorted. Relatively cheap fix too!
 
Had a Diesel....Part-ex'd for the L322.....wait, sh!t shouldn't have said that, I'm in for it now aren't I Keith...go on, let me have it, both barrels if you please?!!
