Hi all

I have a 1999 P38 4.6 , last night the passenger front window opened fine but when I went to close the window it wont come back up, it would continue to go further down but still wont come back up , now its fully down .

There is no message on the message centre ,

Does anyone have any idea as to what may cause this ??

Regards

Hi Anna.
Can you push the switch and pull up the window as they have a safety feature to stop ickle peoples heads getting stuck and it may be confused. Does it make a 'orrible noise in either direction.

Cheers, Nick.

Hi ,

The window regulator imsure is ok as is the gear mechenism. It seems this is an electrical problem, I am trying to figure out if there is a common fault with this problem ie a window motor or the Occ ? I know the parts in the system but without a computer its impossible to test the individual components.

Does anyone know of a way to test the motor or to operate it from a seperate power source just to get the window up till it can be fixed properly??

Yes.
You would have to disconnect the motor from its electrical harness in the door so that you were left with just the power wires that go into the actual motor, that is to the brushes inside the motor. there can only pos and neg because surely the brain/ecu decides which way you want the window to go from the rocker switch. So if you connect a battery to the wires, one to pos, one to neg it will spin one way and if you reverse them it should go the other.
Is that the kind of thing you were after?

Cheers, Nick.

Hi,
Yes that was what I was looking for , the plug onto the motor has six wires, two larger than the others so I imagine they are the power and negitive, the other 4 would probably be control wires,, what I dont want to do is to power the motor with a 12volt suplly and destroy the motor as it may not be what is at fault .

Why dont you try lazy locking it with the fob,ie pressing the lock button a second time and holding it for a couple of seconds. If the Becm shuts the window it will prove the integrity of the Becm, the wiring to the outstation, from that to the motor and the motor itself. It narrows the issue to the centre console outstation.

Thanks Eightinavee I did as you suggeset and it worked , atleast the window is now closed . what way should I proceed with finding the problem component ??

Anna

If you can borrow a centre console swithpack from another car, that would be the easiest way forward. As long as the key is removed from the ignition you shouldnt have to reset all the windows and sunroof after. The unit lifts out after removing the 2 screws, lift the top forward and unhook it from the bottom. There is a single blue multiplug to undo.
