My P38 (1999) 2.5 TD Range Rover stood idle for couple of weeks due to a battery problem. The battery has now been replaced with a brand new one.

Unfortunately since the battery change the right hand forward and left hand back windows do not move anymore. Correct error messages of WINDOW NOT SET appear on the dash.

Anyone have an idea how to overcome this annoying problem?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about the rear ones not working, but to re-set
the front ones
fully open then fully close them. This should result in 'windows re-set' message.

You have to open and then close them all way down then straight up and the same with sun roof if fitted

Sounds like the window switches have packed up, not unusual, can you operate the rear window from the switch in the rear?
The "Windows not set" message requires, as others have said, that the window goes all the way down, hold down button for 5 seconds, then all the way up, you will then get a "Window set" message for that window.

Open each window hold open for 3 seconds then close it.

Contacts on switches might need a clean if no button response... squirt contact cleaner in them if no play from that... new switch panel

Problem is that RF and LH windows just don't move at all, so I can't lower them to reset them. Strange as they were OK before the battery change?!?

I think perhaps the switches had already packed in but you didnt know about it until you tried to re set them?

I've had the same problem with my sunroof for a few months,(since a battery change as well,) I've tried taking it right back and holding for several seconds then closing it, but the warning is still there. Funnily enough, It has worked in the past for all the windows and sunroof. Anything else I can try? I'm not too concerned but it'd be nice to get rid of the warning.

Sunroof. Open all way back, close again, tilt fully up, close again.
Has to go through its full travel from fully back to fully tilted to set.

Guess you could always take the battery off again for 30 minutes while you're spraying contact cleaner in and praying to the RR God. Not that he's been around recently. Think he's playing with his daughters, Hell and Fire.

I quite like that there’s no two p38s seem the same, But share similar issues.
Different owners cobbling on different bits for different methods what makes them so interesting, it’s never what ‘pack’ they came from the factory with :D
