JUDGEM

Hi, I have a 97, 2.5 lt DT. The heating coil symbol in dash does not come on when warm & I run the battery dead trying to start. She starts great from cold.:( Has anyone any ideas ?

JUDGEM... very common issue on the BMW diesel engine. Hot start issues are almost on all now.

Mine takes about 6sec to start when warm against instant when cold. If you keep going, your run you starter in to the ground unless you get things sorted.

The item is costsly to replace but the fix Claw gave you is the common fix. Just make sure you don't go all cheap n nasty and get the £5 replay job as this will only run the engine in cold mode and your do long term damage let alone burn more of your hard earned £'s in fuel.

:)Thank you very much to both of you. I'll try not to get the £5 replay job.
But how will I know that I havn't got it >?

The mod tricks the beast into thinking she's cold every time you start her up. Think a better explanation is in the actual link you have been provided.

The cheapo ones do this constantly. The one Claw gave you the link to is a timed relay... so it only does this for 30sec from when the ignition is switched on. After that it no longer bypasses anything so you get the correct fueling for the temp. Exect about £30 and about 20min to fix. I'll be getting one in a few weeks as mine seams to be taking just a few more turns to start every time now.

I have one of these fitted and their the mutt's nuts. It took me about 15 mins to put in place with a printed set of instructions from http://www.tawpark4x4.com job done, (and a "proper job" at that), money well spent.
