Hi you Lot:)

A mate of mine has just over heated his P38 V8 Holland & Holland due to a leak in the coolant system.

Local garage say's that it's going to cost £6k to fix it or they will give him £2k as a trade in:eek:

Not over clued up on the V8 lump, does this sound about right or are they ripping him!!!!

Cheers

i had a full engine rebuild for £2700 and that included top hat liners machined into a different block as mine had cracked.
there taking the p1ss and trying to rip your mate off big time, they should be reported to trading standards, and then shot!......

Fair play to you Redrange, couldn't agree more.
By the way-have you got it dirty yet?? (The P38 I mean)

Thanks for that redrange:) The qoute that mi mates got is £4500 for bits & £1500 labour:eek:

Did you over heat yours?

Cheers Jason

I'll come and do it for £6k. I'll pick redrange up on the way [he daren't drive his fibreglass replica anywhere] France'll be lovely this time of year. Just tell your mate to put some tinnies and guiness in the cooler in case irish comes as well.

I've had my 2002 P38 taken in to a specialist on the back of a tow truck and drove it out with a new lump in it. Guys who know what they're doing wipe the floor with land rover dealers for price. The last quote I had was £90 plus vat per hour.

A morning's ring round , googling and reading this forum will ease your pal's mind.

Best of luck

Hi supapete

Sorry to disappoint as otherwise a great idea :D but mate with Range actualy lives near Haynes BEDFORDSHIRE hence the reason why I feel so helpless:( So if you know anybody in that area?

I did a search when I needed a new unit in the usual places. One guy came up with varying quites for guarenteed s/h units, fitted or delivered. Varying options of short engines and rebuilt ones. The point being that they delivered and collected. They were keen, as well. The guy followed my enquiry on their web site up with a phone call. They were based in the smoke by heathrow, I think. I've ditched all the guff now. The other option, of course, if he's in the RAC or AA get a tow to Alrewas on the A38 between Lichfield and Burton, camp next door or stop in the B&B across the road. Arrive Tues and drive out Fri. with a new lump fitted. Hi range.01283792302. I live a similar distance away as your mate to them and that's what I did. I couldn't get a short engine delivered to my door for the price they charged me. Sorry if that's all useless info. Shame about the french holiday.

Definately agree-If the motor can be got back here, your talkin around £2500 for the lump, say another £120 for the gaskets, allow another £40 in case the flywheel drive plates cracked another £100 for new push rods and Rockers/shafts. Plus if the rads blocked £150. Hire of an engine crane and bevvies for your mates £1000 (Crane will cost around £50).
If I come over-increase the above by £500 for refreshments whilst I'm sittin on my ass "Advising"

Cheers Chaps, excellent info-Cheers:)

Got to be worth fixing wi it being a "Holland & Holland" un that!

Will keep you posted how he get's on with it.
