Hey everyone,
Ive been enjoying my new P38 for a few weeks now and except for the obvious -slight- fuel consumption issue, ive been very surprised how capable it is off road!

I do have a few upgrades which i think need to get sorted for the old girl.

Heres my wishlist:

·
· Wheels - (16” Alloys fitted at the moment) Not a necessity
· Tyres - (255/65/16 fitted at the moment)
· Front bumper and skid-plate [and winch] - (LRS off-road [eBay shop])
· Rear bumper – (LRS off-road [eBay shop])
· Fuel tank protection (may have to make with checker plate)
· Rocksliders – (LRS off-road [eBay shop])
· Steering and sump guard (Front bumper may cover these areas?)
· Suspension - blocks or air to coil conversion kit
· Diff guards - Purchased
· LPG conversion

I didnt realise when i bought the rangie that P38 offroad parts were so difficult (and expensive) to get hold of.

Have i forgotten anything you can think of?

Not gonna bother with a snorkel, as Ill only drown the electrics and dont really wanna be fixing that!!:crutch:

Any reccomendations on Tyres and sizes? Preferably All terrains as i will be using it on the road quite a bit, (though its not my daily driver).

Can blocks be fitted to the existing air suspension easily enough to gain an inch or so?

I think it could do with a Tank guard of some description though by all accounts these are like hens teeth? I found this one but its a couple of years old and the link sends me to a french site?!

Yer Yer, I know these are probably some newb questions  but, well, erm- I am a newb and your replies will be greatly appreciated!!

Pete. :)

Just fit a set of Arnott Gen 3 air springs and you can have your extra height or at least articulation with the benefit of extended height if you get stuck, not available with coils!

Bit as they are a silly price the gen 2 are just as good and cheaper I would also look at the anti roll bar disconnection links and properly a longer set of shocks few worth while upgrades to the engine will improve mpg and give you more power which is good

I didnt even think of uprated airsprings, thanks for that! Im definitely gonna look into it! found them for around £600 for a full set of gen 3? sound about right?

Wowzers! you wernt kidding, the Gen 2's are half the price!! Ill have to do some more digging around on the net and see wether the gen 3's are worth the extra ££!

Not too sure with the anti roll bar, I dont want to totally ruin the handling on the road as im using it for both on and off road.

The engine upgrades your on about, is it a simple re-map or replacement of parts? Any improvment to mpg would be great!!

Thanks for the replies so far !!!!!:lvkiss-106:
(wow you have some crazy winks on this site, lol)

Uprated EAS bags are on my list at some point! :)

I've been looking for skid plate options for my P38 but not seen anything decent, have you got a link for the ones you've seen Pedrover?

This the sort of thing Chrisfrain is talking about?

Hmmm looks like a very viable option JD/Chrisfrain !! Ill have a look and see what kinda prices i can get em for!!

The only skidplate i found, (after a little searching) was this one from LRS offroad and comes as part of the winch bumper.

Ha, yeah, i thought that would be the way !

So whos gonna lend me the Knife and fork so i can make a propper meal of it??:)
Fortunately, i have a mate who seems confident to lend me a hand!

So, saying i do all on my wishlist to my beloved, how reliable will the rr be as an off roader?
Ive had a few people scaremongering and im a little worried now!!

I know shes gonna be no wader as i said earlier due to the NASA wiring under the seat and my minty fresh carpets (lol)

I guess what im trying to say is- will it be worth it??

Cheers for the link, that's a handy bit of kit...Obviously improves the clearance on the front dramatically, with a winch and skid plate fitting too!
A bit of a toss up between practicality and maybe not looking as good!

I guess it depends on what your using it for? Im planning on off roading mine as much as poss so underbody protection is gonna be a must!!
Check out 'Rockrover.com', they have some pretty serious kit but dunno if they will ship to uk?

If you find any other goodies post them up here and ill do the same fella!

Longer travel shocks with standard airbags is asking for trouble, it will pop an airbag off it's end caps if normal travel is exceeded.

Keep looking on Ebay, I have seen them cheaper than that. If you have contacts in the USA who could ship them to you I'm sure you could get a good price. coils take away many of the off road benefits that come with Air suspension, in particular the automatic height extension if the vehicle is grounded.

The auto ride height extension is priceless, it already got me out of trouble so it is worth keeping, your right.
As I understand, the arnott airsprings come with lifetime warrenty, do you recon that covers puncturing aswell?
Also would I need to uprate the shocks with the gen 3s? Or will the standards suffice? even with the anti roll bar links disconnected?

Your help here is greatly appriciated!!:):):)

Don't listen to em - they're probably just jealous. As long as you keep it away from deep water it'll be fine - remember the air intake is quite low behind the grille. Just keep on top of the servicing.

I've never got stuck offroading in mine (famous last words, perhaps..) and the only breakdown offroad was caused by a defective brand new Arnott Gen 2 rear airbag which cracked across the base plate on the first lane, but I guess that's just the luck of the draw. P38Spares.co.uk replaced it without me even having to send back the old one but it did ruin a days playing on Salisbury plain.

I've got General Grabber AT2s on mine on 18 inch rims and they seem to be perfectly at home on or off road - no tramlining like some of them do. You might be better sticking with the 16s though if you're going to properly off road. Or get 2 sets.

As the Gen 3's have longer travel, it's reasonable to assume that you would need different shocks with longer travel to match the airbags.
Email Arnotts and ask about the warranty.
