I am thinking of having a 2nd set of tyres that I can change over to for doing GRR's and " soft " off road driving . I have 255/55/18 tyres at the moment but I would like to put 15" wheels on . What tyre sizes would then give the same height / profile .. Thanks Duncan

255 x 70 x 15 would give you the same rolling radius but why bother, and why 15" wheels?
Just stick some General Grabbers on what you have now and you're sorted.

To be honest if you're going anywhere really slippy then investing in diff-locks might get more help. Depends what year yours is because the later ones had a clever braking of the spinning wheel built into the traction control. Mine's too old though. :(
