I have a p38 which has developed a strange squeal it is intermitant and seems to only do it under load drives fine no braking probs sounds like metal on metal and sounds as if coming from front cant see anything tho so very confused

hi try having a look at the front prop when the UJs start going they squeak and sound like that becareful as they can snap if left to long ive known someone flip over when prop dug in the ground , ive lost a gearbox before, ujs are only £14 and can change them very easily

I had a squeak about a month back... more like a bird singing away somewhere in the front or under the seats kind of thing. Would do it when throttle applied and go when you took foot off.... It turned out to be UJ as surgessted on forums when I asked. Just as 22s said. Part is about £14. Think I paid £28 inc fitting and took less than 30min from start to finish.

had a good look and can see nothing else and as she has done 145k and I have never touched them for 14 quid will have a go on Monday and let you know thanks for the info

managed to get underneath and spot on the UJ from the transfer box to the prop is knackered have ordered up new for all round once again thanks for the help oh and filled it with grease so the squeal has gone but new ones should be here tomorrow

Greasing them from time to time helps tremendously i find.:D:D:D:D

well I got so much grease everywhere the whole motor should be preserved for ever even managed to get some on the windscreen DOH

just a thought I have a dull rumble at between 45 and 50 so I am hoping this will be cured by replacing the uj's

Yours must be the only Rangie ever made with a grease nipple on the windscreen then.:):):)

Think you maybe on a winner with that one. If the UJs are allowing the prop to flop around like a whippets dick think new ones may just cure it.
