Another post on airbag suspension issues, my 1997 P38 rises fine, but goes up to what I guess must be max, and won't drop again- hence the ride is actually fine, but what looks like a rather big gap between the tyres and the arches; I'm reasonable with straightforward mechanical stuff but I'm new to Range Rovers and air suspension generally. The car has been with a mechanic which is very good with 4x4's generally for fuel pump seals, but he can't fix this and reckons the only answer is replace the ECU, does this sound like the way to go if I want the bags to perform as they should?

Your description of the problem is vague at best. "It doesn't drop automatically";
1) From wading to standard?
2) From standard to motorway once over 52mph for 30 seconds?
A bit more info wouldn't go amiss.

I stated the obvious, if your mechanic doesn't know what the problem is then why change the ECU ? Will he just keep changing things till he finds something that fixes the problem? That sounds very much like what the Main Stealers do. Tell him to change the driver pack, then the valve block, the ECU and for good measure the air drier, After that it's only the storage tank, all the air lines, height sensors and the relay. Hope that helps and I haven't left anything out.

Need diagnostics. Send a message to Datatek for the lead and EAS software.
Is it the top light on the EAS switch? If you move the rocker switch to shift between heights does it work? Can you change the height if you press the inhibit switch before selecting on the rocker switch?

I wasn't trying to be negative Grrrrrr, we never got told the all of the problem just the mechanics guess.

It was a bit vague, hence my questions. If he's new then he probably doesn't trust his instincts or know if what he is looking at is normal or not. Could be it is at normal ride height. Could be extended. Pictures might help. Diagnostics would help. Need Wammers and his crystal ball.

He obviously did think I was. It could simply be calibration way out, if someone has been playing with it. |Think Wammers ball is away for service so we will have to use the hairy ones.

I think he preferes the Main Stealer guerssing method.Proper diagnostics on it then report findings. He could of course try reading my EAS guide in Tech Archives for a little insight. And a couple of things he can check meanwhile.
