i have got 1996 P38 4ltr petrol. The car has had new front oiled filled shock absorbers and new track rod end. The car has also been four wheel tracked. The car has 255/55/18 size tyres which are in good order. The steering box has also been checked. On un even road surfaces the car wonders. It was like this before the work listed was carried out. Is this a common trait of a P38 or is there a fault, if so could somebody please give me some ideas as to what the fault could be and remedies. The car is on air supension.

thanks

check the tyre pressure. You should have 28psi in the fronts. A lot of tyre dealers don't always know the correct pressure and put too much in.

Has it had both track rod ends done?? Have you checked the steering damper as well??

I have a '98 4.0SE which also recently developed an alarming steering wander. Having initially discounted the steering box as the problem, I changed the shocks for uprated air filled ones, the air suspension units, the steering damper and the suspension bushes, all without curing the problem. Eventually came back to the steering box, and although there seemed to be very little play, decided to change it out of desperation. This did indeed cure the wander.
