Main Dealer and around £120! Complete rip off but as far as I could find
out you have little choice.

If I buy a blank key with one of these, can it be programmed by anyone?

I remember asking this a while back about my disco. There was a mob
who would sell you the key (I forget the URL) but then they said it
would need to be programmed by the main dealer to work with the car.
(they wanted about GBP54 for the key only - Disco 1)

Needless to say I am still driving around with no spare - hoping the
squeakers don't drop the fob in Orange Juice like they did to my
spare.

you can program the key yourself if you have access to a rovacomlite with the correct modules. you can get the key itself for about &#163;20 on ebay, but if you want the key cut to match your lock, it will have to be sent off to landrover, as it is laser cut. You will need to take along your vehicle documentation when you do this, as its all tied into your chassis number etc. and yup its about &#163;100 to do this. no cheap way of doing it im afraid. its about the only part on the car that there is no way of getting it cheaper elsewhere. so if you want it working properly, go down to your local main dealer and splash the cash.

These keys are ordered to the chassis number of the vehicle.
They do not need programming, they just require re-synchronising with
the vehicle. This is manual process, which is different for different
model years.
