We have a 1996 P38 4.6 HSE with a HK stereo/CD changer, and recently we have been getting sudden loud cracks or popping sounds for the back of the car, at the same time the radio/CD volume will either mute or get louder, combined with the radio display going dim for a while.
It's quite alarming when your driving to hear this sudden loud "crack" sound, which appears to be coming from the rear passenger side speaker. Is it likely to be a fault in the CD changer or something else?, the CD still plays normally. What springs to my mind is a sudden capacitor dischage somewhere in the system , but I don't know, any ideas?.

Sounds like a cabling issue or perhaps the connections at either end? Have you have a leak in the car? Corrosion of cables?

Have the same prob but it sounds as if there is no suppression when it kicks in wondered if it had anything to do with an old hands free kit which is installed

Common problem, had the same with mine, the radio needs servicing. Send it to the guy over at www.roverville.us (click the UK link) and it will come back fully serviced, new screen and all your problems will be solved.

I did it with my radio and he had it back really quickly and not only that, I had a working display again that I could read.
