I have just bought a set of sidesteps for the P38, they are second hand but never been fitted so in as new condition.

They didnt come with any fixings and after searching on here i need some Rivnuts, i have ordered a set off ebay which say theg are fir a freelander but the measurements seem the same, has anyone fitted these freelander ones to a P38 and will they work??
 
Should find the holes are already in the chassis. Also if you haven't used rivnuts before there are some Utube videos, just search for - installing rivnuts
 
Just got back home with the steps as we picked them up whilst out in the motorhome.

Pumped the car up to wading height had a look underneath and the rivnuts are already in place so must of had some on at sometime.

I will have a set of freelander ones going cheap in a few days when they arrive.

Yes got the brackets with the steps but had been left outside in a carrier bag so very rusty, im gonna clean and paint them before fitting at the weekend hopefully.

If they're proper side steps then you should also be able to remove the rubber covers, treat any rust, knock out any dents and paint them before you fit them. Considering where they're going to live I reckon it's worth it. :D

He said they had never been fitted so they should not be dented or rusted:)

True, but could still do with extra rust proofing. These things get the worst of it. The steel frames on mine were literally held together by the rubber. Hence I changed mine to aluminium.

Agreed, I had to do mine a while ago, made some up out of heavy angle iron.:D
 
Or he could use the sensible solution and not fit them, as P38s with them fitted look crap. :D:D:D
 
If yours uses L brackets made of mild steel then these will last about 12 months before they rot through and the front (usually) drops down when you hit a bump in the road and digs in, ripping the rear one off and redesigning the step in the process. I had some made in stainless using the old ones as a pattern. Well worth the effort and cost.

Just don't like side steps, ruins the lines of the car in my view. Buying her a folding stowable plastic step would have been a lot cheaper. :D:D:D
 
Sidesteps all fitted and i personally like the look of them.
