Does anyone have experience of this problem? My P38 DT manual wont select low range as it seems to be sensing that i`ve not selected neutral when I have. When I press the dash mounted button the light flashes for a few seconds and the message centre says "select neutral" as if it`s still in gear. Where is the sensor for this and what does ot look like? Is there also a sensor on the clutch as I believe this needs to be depressed also or is the sensor only on the transfer case sensing any gear movement?

Problem sorted. After checking the transfer box ECU and testing the motor I noticed also the revesing lights did not work so I tested the micro switches for neutral and reverse on the gearbox - these worked fine. On tracing the wires forward to the side of the engine I noticed a multiplug had been disconnected ( probably when a new clutch was fitted earlier this year). Low range and reverse lights working A1.

Where excactly is the plug, I have the same problem 'select neutral' and can't get low range (although reverse lights are working).

It's on the nearside of the engine towards the bulkhead below the manifold. Fairly difficult to see. Mine is a diesel, could be that the contacts are dirty or that the neutral switch is faulty.

I have the same problem...mine stoped working one day. i have no turn signal noise when the key is in but when it is out it will work as well. I have a 96 p38 gas could your problem apply?

Okay so I went back and forth between my low gears and it went away...so would this mean that it is the small motor on my transfer case?
