Hello, I have a P38 without Satellite navigation. Is there anyway for to fit the Sat Nav system that would have been fitted to a P38 as standard to my vehicle? If so does anybody know of suppliers etc?

Cheers

Gareth

As far as I'm aware LR don't make them any longer so you will need to search eBay or hunt them down else where. But you do realise they are rubbish? TOM TOM Go’s are far superior.

But there are two other options to you to think about:-

NOKIA N95 Smart phone - Has GPS satellite software built in and using a Bluetooth adapter via your cars stereo, you can use that.

PIONEER’s AVIC-X1BT DVD Sat Nav solution which replaces your car stereo but at a cost of £1300.

Nokia 95 with Tom-Tom is far the better option, please note that the current software does not support the internal GPS in the phone at the moment. Not sure when this will be out but you should be able to check online at tomtom.com The N95 works well with a Bluetooth GPS receiver.:D Cheers Faz

The best thing as Faz has said about the Nokia N95 system is that its portable so you can take it with you in any car thats fitted with a BlueTooth adapter.

Obviously its a far cheaper solution than the Pioneer! Although the trade cost of the Pioneer is £600 rather than the retail cost of £1300! If you know someone in the trade, its worth every penny.

Hi People,

I have a 2002 Westminster fitted with Sat Nav as standard, I do 50K miles a year, the sat nav when you become experienced with it is easy to use, it depends on how often each driver has a need to use it. The only complaint I have is obtaining updates, does anybody have any information were updates can be obtained, Regards Steve

Steve,

Thats the main problem, LR don't create new updates anylonger and other far far cheaper Sat Nav systems have surpassed that of LR's official sat nav.

Therefore it doesnt make any sense to try and buy and install the LR sat nav, if you can find one that is.

Personally. I'd advise anyone that doesnt have one at the moment to move to an aftermarket system such as described above...ie the Pioneer AVIC-X1BT or NOKIA N95 with TOM TOM GO software.

It might be cheaper to buy the Siemens VDO MS4400 Satellite Navigation /CD MP3 Player on eBay at £501 Inc P&P delivery.

At £119 for just UK & Ireland update discs is steep in my book and you still need to update every other year to keep it up to date. But it still doesn’t get away from the fact that the Official LR Sat Nav is poor....and certainly not worth the money nowadays.

argh, stop bashing everything!! people may like to keep the vehicle in its original state (or as close to as possible). this includes not wanting to swap the radio fot the latest flashy colour one with bluetooth hands free capability (when you can actually use a kit to integrate the original head unit with any car kit you wish to) or changing it out for some hideous fold out screen sat nav thing.

Secondly the LR sat nav isnt poor. if it is poor, WHY is it poor?? like most things it takes getting used to as Steve said. From what ive seen of it it works just as well as any other sat nav and I wouldnt mind having it in my P38 even if i did loose that really useful little area above the radio to store 'stuff'. Also why do you want to be like all the other mindless drivers going along with the blasted things stuck to their windscreens, its just so common these days, its nice to be different and have it factory intergrated.

its like you want to force your views on everyone

Errr....am I not entitled to my own opinion?

Its nice that you speak for the whole forum.....I know your views Will on preserving the P38's innocents, look etc and keeping it mint and using only official parts and accessories, you've made your opinion known a million times now, so please now just shut up.

I didnt see you post any information, until I posted then you come along and then flame me.....great forum spirit as normal Will. Not only that, no part of your post actually helps the original poster's question. He was asking for help and advice. Simply having a go at me only makes you feel better about yourself and thats not helpful at all.

Oh and BTW, I HAVE used the official LR sat nav and thats why I speak from experience, something you admit you don't have.

Also why do you want to be like all the other mindless drivers going along with the blasted things stuck to their windscreens, its just so common these days, its nice to be different and have it factory intergrated.

If you read my post fully you would have realised that I recommended using a NOKIA N95 with TOM TOM Go which you use listening to the voice commands rather than looking at the screen. Which is exactly what you do with the LR one due to road safety issues.

As its a Bluetooth device it can be in your pocket, briefcase on inside the glove compartment.....thats the beauty of Bluetooth....you dont, as you say, have to have it stuck on your windscreen.

Ditto westminster 2002 sat nav. It always gets me home on the one road where I live. Wills for prime minister, I say. regards all P.S

Hi, I have a few complete systems for the P38 and they come with 2008 discs.
The original discs stopped being made in 2002 but there are other manufactures whos discs you can use.
A retro install can be done without too much hassle and any good car audio garage can do an install in about 3 hours.
These systems are great, they work well both on road on off. A TOM TOM may be better but then these fit snuggly into your dash and make the look of your interior that much better.
Anyone interested in a complete system please contact me.

I've got an N95 8gb and use TomTom - awesome system, totally portable... Got a Bluetooth HandsFree kit too so it mutes the stereo to give directions... (also lets you watch movies on the phone and hear them through the car speakers too...)

Incidentally, there is a small application that you can install alongside TomTom on your N95 that fools the software that the internal GPS is an external Bluetooth one - so it works perfectly without the need to add any other gubbins...

nearly £500 quid, **** that, i like my fag storage!!!! and sat nav isnt that good, i like getting lost, i love guessing. if it can play video tho its worth it.
