Hello there
I have recently bought a 1999 T Range rover DSE and I have notice that the air suspension is playing up. What is happening is when I start the car up in the morning it is set in loading mode with the normal ride height button flashing after about 10 minutes driving around in the RR the loading mode light goes out and the normal ride height light stays on and the air suspension works fine, up down no problem. Even when I park up the RR overnight it still remains at its correct ride height. As soon as I get in the car again in the morning and put the key in the iginition and start her up, I can hear air being release from the compressor and it sinks down to loading mode again with the normal ride height light flashing and the whole process repeats itself. My Range rover is currently in the local workshop, One of the chaps down there have check it all out for me and they said there is no error codes showing up on there computer and the compressor is working fine. So it may be a leak from some where but they don't know so I don't ?
Any ideas would be most appreicated thanks Dave.

Jesus monkey ****s, use the search!!!!

To be fair, I'm not sure how you could search for that particular problem.

Sounds to me as if he's saying as soon as he starts the car it dives down to access height. Not come across that one before.

Give this guy a call...if anyone knows what to do he will (it's his profession) Might charge you small fee for fixing it but he's a good and will talk you through most of it. Name is Scott Bailey 07957722002 (tell him Leanne gave you his number)

:nospamhere: :D

Sounds to me like there is a leak before the valve block, on the pump its self. The system is staying fine over night when the pump is not running but in the morning when the valve block is open again, the pump isnt producing enough pressure.

I have a EAS ECU with a fault logged (EAS Fault - 35mph etc). If it's pumped up manually, it stays up with the engine running. However, come to it the next day (with it still up) and as soon as you start the engine, EAS fault flashes up and it lowers it to the bump stops. It sounds like yours is doing this without the fault for some reason. I would suspect the EAS ECU.

I think you may be right drewsp38. I have been down to the workshop today, along with my old man to check for leaks underneath the RR. We found that the airbag springs on the front are fairly new, airbag springs on the rear are slighly worn but no leaks, all the airlines are in good shape. So it brings me to the conclusion its either the valve block or the compressor pump. I have been speaking to a chap called simon today who sells EAS parts on Ebay and he has mention that I need to fix four emergency valves to the valve to check the pressure in the system at a cost of £112.00 while he will check the pump if is the pump it will cost about £90 and I will have to exhange my old one. But I think I will just buy a new pump and slack off the valves and if it burns out in 4 months time I will jack the bastard up in the garage and fit coil springs on it. Job done.

What emergency valves is he talking about for £112? I paid £40 for a manual inflation kit. This consists of 4 short pieces of pipe, 4 T pieces, 4 longer pieces of pipe connected to 4 schrader (tyre) valves mounted on a bracket. Installation is just pulling out the pipes from the valve block that go to the springs, inserting the short pieces, put the T pieces on these and the longer pieces in the Ts as well. That's your emergency valves fitted. Takes all of 5 minutes. I don't know where he gets his £112 from.
As for the pump, it's most definitely not your problem. Even with no air in the reservoir, the system would not open the air bag solenoid valves to pump them up until there was sufficient pressure in the system to do that. Also, you say that it's pumping back up after it's dropped it down. If the pump was that knackered, it wouldn't do that.
I'm quite convinced you have an electrical problem somewhere rather than a mechanical / pneumatic one. It sounds like this chap 'Simon' is trying to pull a fast one.

yeah you are right mate that simon is trying blind me with science and take the **** out of me. But what I also discover today that my RR was park up outside the workshop today sitting ats it normal ride height position, fire her up press the suspension button to go up and so she did then press it to go down fine. Press the suspension button to go back up again to its normal ride height its was going up but it was like watching old people shagging. I don't think its creating enough pressure in the system. So I haven't rule the EAS compressor pump out just yet, it is still the original one and it is 11 years old and also the RR done 104000 miles so I think it might be due.

Yeah, your pump may be getting a bit tired but it still wouldn't account for it going down in the mornings when you fired it up after it'd been up all night. It would account for the symptoms you just mentioned though.

Most of the time my RR stays at its normal ride when parked, but I have notice every now and then when I go to park it up the suspension sinks all road about 1 - 1.5 inch roughly. But my old man seems to think that all p38 do that because it is in park mode. But I find that very hard to believe silly old git.

But cheers for the advice Derek

Tis true. They level themslves to the lowest given point of any of the hight sensors periodicly . This is why if you have a leak on any of the air bags, once that corner goes down, the car levels it self to the same level as the dodgy bag. Thats why you will find it on the bump stops after several hours. To find the leaky bag remove the EAS timer and then it will only sink on the corner with the bad bag.

Any how, I dont think thats your problem, I would bet that yours needs nothing more than a £20 pump seal.

Well, he's sort of right - it will self level over a period of time (few hours / overnight) down to the lowest corner. The function of the 'delay timer' relay is to do just that - every so often put power onto the EAS ECU to allow it to self level. It just says every few hours in Rave.

yeah I have seen those seal kits advertised for £20 on the p38 spares website. This obviously is a much cheaper option than buying a new pump. But is it hard to rebuild and replace seals on these pumps ?
I might also do a double check on the air bags because I read that the o rings can sometimes go on these's So maybe then I can officially cross it off my list, probably a waste of time but worth a go. The EAS timer is that somewhere under the bonnet or is it under the front passenger seat ?
