hello i have a 1998 2.5 range rover with a problem:rolleyes:
the cental locking no longer opens the drivers door or the passanger side door all other the doors and boot open ok. The engine won't start but will crank over but is not showing any thing on the dash eg engine immobilizer i have all so noticed after a bit the indicators stay on solid
can any body help before i doo something silly:(

How is the battery? P38a is very fussy about battery condition otherwise all sorts of weird things can kick off.

BECM getting confused by low battery volts. Check the carpets around the drivers seat, if they are wet suspect condensation in the BECM or corroded connectors.

carpets are dry
would a battery cause problems like i have said?

Low battery volts can cause many problems, worth checking the under bonnet fuse box for signs/smells of burning and also for corrosion. Check the battery terminal connections and earth points, make sure the cables from the battery have not corroded away inside the plastic sleeve.

Battery voltage should be in the range of 12.5 to 12.8 volts engine off and rise to 14.0 to 14.8 volts with the engine at 2k rpm.

If the battery voltage and connections etc are all good, as already said your door locks could have fried which will most likely be due to a duff RF receiver.

standard rr then chauffeur as standard trim level:D:D

were is the RF receiver and how can i test it:confused:

It's behind the trim panel in the right hand side of the boot. Tilt the seat forward and there's a screw, then pull the plastic plugs in the boot and the trim will come off. It will be tight. For the moment just disconnect the blue wire that goes to the aerial built into the window. This will stop it picking up signals that might be causing it to operate, signals that weren't even thought of when the car was built. For you all that it means is that you will have to be close to the receiver when you press the button on the key.

When you have replaced the battery and investigated your door locks then you can come back to this and repair or replace it.
