Hi
Im new to the site and would like some advise on how to stop my pollen filters letting water in and soaking my carpet on both sides. I have stripped and siliconed everything around the filters and the rain still comes in. If i take out the filters again after it rains i can see water in the housings dripping into the car.. Its definately coming in there and not from the o-rings or drain tubes. Great site by the way
Cheers
Mark

If the covers are not distorted, a bead of silicone round the edge of the cover before you fit it should do the job. If it doesn't, either you didnt do a good job or the water is coming from somewhere else.

I tried twice to recover pollen filter housings with silicone. No luck. Still some water inside.
Bit the bullet and bought 2 brand new. No more water:D
Brand new one do not used a silicone gasket it's more a sponge type

I just did the same the other weekend. Cleaned out the entire plenum area, new plenum filter (homemade) and sealed the pollen filter covers with gutter sealant. Worked a treat. So far. I hope I have not spoken too soon.......

Neither do the old ones, they have always been sponge. Trick is to put a little washing up liquid around rim as release agent. Silicone on cover and just lightly press on. Wait for silicone to go off, pull cover off trim excess then replace and nip screws up.

Do I need to remove all the plastic facia on 2000 p38 to get to the pollen filter housings as I have water on drivers side footwell fink its rainwater

No, 2 rectangular plastic covers, one each side, easy to see when the bonnet is up. Rain water also gets in the the pollen filter drains are blocked and from the screws holding the metal valence.
Of course if it's not coolant and you have aircon, it could just be a blocked aircon drain.

Have you cleared your A/C drains? If these are blocked you will get water inside the car. Get underneath and slip your hand up the side of the bellhousing. You will feel two rubber bulbs (one either side), give them a squeeze and hopefully get an arm full of water and crap.:D

I will give that a try been underneath but can't find the rubber drains trying to get some pic of where they are located

Iv found the rubber things thanks for your assistance the pollen filters were dry but the rubber grommet things for draing the aircon are hollow prob perished would that let water into the drivers side footwell

No, they are to let condensed water out to prevent it entering the car :D

Oh ok will have to keep looking then because the carpet is soaking wet I only had the condenser radiator replaced last week so thought it must b something to do with the aircon which is working properly now

There has been howto on repairs to pollen filter covers and when I had my heap of **** p38 the footwell leak was infact roof seam leak down pillar

Mist roof with hose and you may find it tracks behind head lining

Ok will try that tommorrow hope it's not o rings had them replaced 2 years ago mabey they need replacing again
