Should I have a constant trickle of water in to the expansion tank?Could well be an air lock, they can be difficult to bleed. Do you have a trickle of water coming out of the little bleed pipe at the top of the RAD into the expansion tank?
The fact that with the cabin blowers on and the blends set to hot suggests it's just lack of flow through the radiator. Is the RAD evenly hot all over? Is the aircon condensor so full of shyte that the airflow is restricted?
A little at least. The metal bladed waterpump return a little less to the tank than the plastic variant. What year is it?Should I have a constant trickle of water in to the expansion tank?
Yes brand new fanWas the fan new when you replaced it?

Yep fan definitely worksYou say the viscose fan works, they all spin but does it roar like a tank if not its not locking up,
when you first start it it should be noisy they go quiet then noisy again at temp.
Drill a hole in the bottom of the radiator and fit a drain plug.
Can get the sludge out then.

Do the rolled up newspaper test, new these days does not unfortunately mean good.Yep fan definitely works
Please explain the rolled up news paper testDo the rolled up newspaper test, new these days does not unfortunately mean good.
Power it up from the bottom then with coolant forcing the air out through the heater matrix..It's a new RAD and they have a drain plug.
Go back to your Toyota twonk you clearly know sweet FA about the P38.Power it up from the bottom then with coolant forcing the air out through the heater matrix..
Tightly rolled newspaper, engine up to temperature and idling, keeping hands clear, shove the end of the newspaper into the fan blades, if it stops, it's no good. Please explain the rolled up news paper test

Thanks I will give that a go. Do the two small fans in front of the rad have anything to do with cooling the engine or are they just for the heating system. Is there a way of testing them? I’ve never seen them onTightly rolled newspaper, engine up to temperature and idling, keeping hands clear, shove the end of the newspaper into the fan blades, if it stops, it's no good.
