Hi,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the ride quality on my 30th Aniv P38. I've owned for about 6 months, before came from '93 EFI Classic, which had a far better ride quality!

It's been converted to springs when i bought it. These are the cheap britpart ones which may be the issue? It's so bad a passenger in the rear asked if it was a cut and shut the other day!

I have fitted polyurethane ARB bushes up front and replaced the shocks with the cellular dynamic foam ones also from britpart. It has improved it but it's still very boaty and hits the bumpstops when off roading.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!
 
I was afraid that would be the answer ;(

I wanted one on EAS but after reading all the write ups saying how often it goes wrong I went for this one. Have just spent £2k getting it converted so may have to live with it for now. I've also never driven one on air so perhaps should change that and see what the difference is. At least the compressor is still there I guess!
 
Some spring setups have had good reports, but there is nothing like the air ride as that is what the suspension system was designed for.

Good quality springs will help the ride, and Britpart does have a reputation for the lower end of the scale.
 
The EAS doesn't go wrong often, it just needs maintenance. Just realised you are a newby, very brave sticking your head above the parapet and saying it was on coils( spit and wash mouth out). There was a whole system for sale a coupe of weeks ago on the BAY, think it went for £37. If I were you I would check what you have remaining of the system and go from there:welcome:

+1 definitely worth putting air back on. That was the whole point of the p38 selling point when new. Welcom mate :p
 
Oh dear Not a good start guessing the term coil springs isn't popular in the P38 section! I will have a look see what I've got left on there. Perhaps poor springs could be the difference is just the danger of buying more to find out.

Mind you if I can get a full system for that price be worth giving the air a shot. Just priced up a rough cost on island 4x4 and think second hand might be the way forward!

I'm not sure the poly bushes will do you any favours either. Not tried myself but I've heard mixed reports. I would have thought rubber would be more forgiving though.

Shocks make a big difference. Not sure what is best with springs but Terrafirma can be a bit harsh and Britpart are not pleasant.
 
Wouldn't recommend used Air Springs (depending on how long you are wanting to keep it….false economy in the long term). Sounds like you are doing a bit off off roading…few people on here seem to use Arnot 3, I'm putting 2's on mine as they are perfectly adequate for my motorway/country cruises! Replace your shocks with something decent if needed….easier to do it all in one.

If you have the valve block and compressor ready to go should be fairly simple. Would recommend reconning both…plenty of advice on here on how to do both.
 
I haven't found the EAS to be too bad really. Had a few issues but solved them by buying affordable service kits for the compressor and valve block. Check a site run by a guy called PaulP38, he has a great guide to servicing certain parts.

Like someone said earlier, the EAS gets a lot of grief but it should be serviced as regularly as the filters etc. and the ride is great

Getting rid of the polybushes and fitting OEM shocks may help, but it will never be good on springs, it was designed for air.
