The pick up pipe all the way to the filter needs to be air tight. It could be an incorrect fuel filter, mine had 2 sealing rings on the filter when I got it but needs only 1 on the filter, the other is in the filter head.

been told to by pass filter and if it runs ok put another inline filter in

Been told to by pass the filter and put another inline filter in I have had 2 filters and was told both times to throw away the centre seal even had housing off to check for a seal that may have been stuck up on body

There's O rings on the pipe fittings, filter housing in and out. I wouldn't run without the filter. What sort of inline filter? One of them plastic rock catchers?

I don't know if the filter housing changed during production but mine (2001) has only 1 seal on the outer rim of the filter , the filter is also domed in the middle, the housing itself has one small thick seal which seals into the dome on the filter.

The filter housing contains a fuel heater, bad idea to run without it especially on veg. The seals that come with the filter are normally needed.

If you remove the inner seal off what could be the wrong filter you are not filtering the fuel. Might be, not sure, where your air is getting in.

Stc2827 is my filter, one seal on it, center domed up slightly, seal perment in filter housing center.

O rings changed....going to put inline filter in as temporary fix...if it works will replace with another housing or universal filter housing...also fitting heat exchanger for heating the fuel....if all this dont work getting drunk.

Is the filter housing cracked anywhere?
Not sure...tomorrow going to by pass with pipe see if it cures air problem...probably put new housing and filter on...bit peed off with garage diagnosis and them starting from tank...I used to do all this myself but I am getting on in years got arthritis in hands so restricted in tasks.. love this forum though..and the p38 ❤

Update....by passed filter put inline filter...no air now runs great....fault is at filter housing or filter body...ordered new unit it was a case of elimination from itp to filter???

If the fuel filter is overtightened it is so easy to crack the housing.
