There may have been an Australian market kit for fitting a baby seat, their rules are different to UK and I have a vague recollection of coming across one one time

Anyone know how or if there is a kit to turn my lap belt in the rear to a normal 3 point seatbelt?

I have seen some landy kits online but none for a p38 (96).

Thanks.

if i remember correctly, mothercare used to sell a complete upgrade kit for converting cars to a proper 3 point seat belt.maybe worth a look see.;)

Sorry for dragging up an old post but google has not been my friend on this one.
I am considering getting shot of my RR because its just not safe only having a lap belt for my 5 year old.
Anyone come across anything? Cheers!

Just put an adult on the lap belt and the kid in one of the two three point positions in the back. Simples.

Simple DIY job I would have thought, just bolt a standard belt drum the the floor behind the seat in the appropriate place with a suitable reinforcing plate underneath. A second hand rear belt from a scrapper would do the job.

Coming to this conclusion also ... Was hoping someone had done a kit.

If you guys haven't heard of anything I better get me drill out. Thanks very much.

I had a look at this before we bought our P38, and I'd thought of the 2nd hand reel bolted to the boot floor, but the problem with that, is the looping of the 3rd strap over the top inboard corner of the wider 'half' of the rear seatback, in a front end shunt, would impose too large a load on what is longditudinally unsupported - there's only the latch at the offside C post.

You could link the 2 halves together with a steel bar/latch support of some kind which would spread the load evenly between both latches.

Trawled all over the web and found (though can't remember where) a pic of someone's solution, a non-inertia adjustable strap fixed to the top centre of the tailgate 'goalpost', running forward over the seatback and down to the waist belt/catch. Clunky and fiddly but it did provide the requisite support.

I suppose with some ingenuity you could mount a reel on the goal post to make a more elegant and user friendly arrangement.

In the end I didn't bother as on the few occasions we need it the grandkids get the proper belts and their mum goes in the middle.

Certainly makes you drive more carefully . . .

You just need a reinforcing web from the top of the seat to the seat belt mount in the boot, Ideally you put the shoulder strap to the nearside so it's not stressing the extreme end of the seat.
