Hi, I have a RR P38 1999 2.5 diesel and some months ago the key stopped locking the car. I've reset it by turning the key fob right and left while locking and unlocking in the drivers door, changed the battery etc, it only manually locks each door at a time. Which is a problem as the boot doesn't have a lock. The key fob's light blinks red, but the dashboard's locking system (not sure if that's what it's called?) doesn't. I've attached a picture of the dash to show what I mean.

Has this happened to anybody? Kind of in a hurry to fix it as we're going on a long drive soon.

You need diagnostics to find out what is not happening.

The dash LED only show the alarm is set. Sounds like you need door latch microswitches changing.

Does the car does unlock & lock on the FOB ? If not you also need to sort that, or you will wear out replacement latch as well !!

The car does not lock or unlock with the key fob buttons. If I turn it in the lock, it only manually locks the door I'm turning, not the others. The door latch microswitches are inside the driver's door? Thanks for the advice!

Is it possible to just change the driver's door lock mechanism?
Yes you can buy replacement door lock mechanisms, they can also be repaired by fitting new micro switches. It is said the the MG TF uses the same lock mechanism at half the price of the JLR part but I have no experience of that as I fitted new micro switches to mine.

Make sure the ignition barrel is popping all the way out. Contact cleaner, blow out and then quick squirt of graphite lube spray wouldn't hurt.

Edit: just read down further and seen it was self-inflicted.
