Thanks all, I'll get it sent away for repairs.
Just phoned our local dealer to buy a replacement £256 plus vat. And it comes uncoded. Has to be coded by a local landie specialist and they don't always work.. madness
NO THEY don't robbing bastards.I sent mine off on Saturday first class and it was delivered Monday ,repaired and back in the post Monday before lunchtime first class signed for and it arrived on Saturday morning ,should have been Tuesday.

I was told that the key and fob come from Germany and have to be coded here, but the main stealers don't keep data that old. Apparently the L322 models are the same now. To old
I have always been told they send them off to the Germans, so whoever told you they can do it from the dealership is wrong, they send it off to the Germans as well

If you need a new key there’s a place called remote key. They can read the old key and supply a new though not a folding like the original but at £100 and not £250 I could live it. I’ve attached a pic. I think I’ll get one for a spare as my old P38 never came with one

The key has to come from Huf in Germany if you don't have the key number its best to go for key 4 ,duplicate key numbers are when confusion starts. No coding required, its all done by Huf.

That's £100 more than a few years ago. Brexit? Keys are coded by Huf and cannot be recoded. It might require syncing to the car as per your manual. If no working key is available then may need diag to clear RF memory.

Could MrSporty not help? Incidentally, he can also clone keys but you cannot use both at once. Each key has a unique code and if you use cloned keys then the keys go out of sync.

I've heard two different versions, one from the folks on here and one from the dealer. The dealer version is that they can order the new fob and blade at a cost of whatever. You then have to have it coded. A local Land Rover specialist confirmed that they do code keys for older vehicles, as the dealer doesn't keep data on them. Older seems to be anything other than a new vehicle. Apparently they view the P38 as a classic now, yes I was told that!!. The local parts guy looked up the price of the fobs and it's £208 plus vat , but he couldn't order them because of "security"

See post #28, you will get a different story from people on here because we don't have a big shiney showroom to pay for,get your fob refurbished ànd possibly a clone or a new blade cut .

Utter tosh. I was told the same when I bought mine. Took the key, opened with my existing fob, synced the new key up and was off. Most main dealers have never worked on a P38 - too old for them.

I ordered the key at 5pm on Friday and it arrived Monday lunchtime. I was asked to bring the logbook and id to prove ownership when picking up. Not bad considering it came from Germany. I've heard there's only 1 guy left that knows how to do the key programming at Huf and when he goes on holiday you have to wait. Better hope he doesn't get covid!

I've just had mine repaired by Second remote repairs on the Bay same fault as yours and a new case for £25.99. Happy so far, just the long wait thanks to Royal Mail.
Did they send back your old case I need to send one just wondered if it got the landrover logo on it ,did you send it complete with key blade,,,;)

A new key from the stealers should only need syncing to your P38, this is easily done by yourself. Some stealers try and bam boozle customers and charge for the service

There's no doubt the local dealer doesn't know a thing about the older vehicles, I could hear the conversation they were having with each other, when I called.

You can buy them on Alibaba and AliExpress for pennies, but I have never seen them with the logo on them
