Hi Guys,

Do I need to disconnect the battery before I take the instrument panel out?

I thought it was ok as long as you left the ignition off, but following the o rings walkthrough on rangerovers.net it says that you should...?

I don't want to if I can avoid it.

Kooky,

I disconnected the battery before taking the binacle out as I did not want to unplug and plug in the airbag loom with it connected. You may know already, but as long as it is disconnected within 17 secs of turning ignition to off and taking the key out, you will only need to reset the windows and sunroof later.

Ah well, done it now with the battery connected.

TBH, that has been the least of my worries. Trying to do my o rings and I just can't see how you get access to them even if I cut the duct which I was trying to avoid doing.

Getting really fed up with it now. Time to sit and stare at it for a while with a nice cup of tea...

just done mine today. bloody botch to cut the duct and the o ring clamp screw was less than co operative. but if you follow the link bellow (inc cutting a couple of access holes)

Heater Core O-Ring Replacement

need a long screwdriver and wd40 and some patience.

i didnt disconnect the battery either.

Remember not to switch the ignition on with the airbag plug disconnected from the panel..you will finish up with the SRS light on it will register a fault and need resetting

Yippee!

Well it's all done. Well, half done - I've still got to stick it back together again. But that will have to wait until tomorrow as I'm on bbq duties in a minute.

I had to cut the duct in the end - couldn't see any way round it.

Stupid question, perhaps, but is there a particular brand of duct tape that I should use to mend it? I've got some fabric reinforced stuff that I bought ages ago that I thought would be excellent, but it's so feeble it can't even stick to itself.

2nd question, are the instrument panel bulbs a LR only buy, or will Halfrauds do em?

Cheers for all the advice. Just hope the leak really has stopped...

before you put it all together put the instrument plugs back in fill her up with coolant and check for leaks. Mine ****ed out first time so drained again pull moff again and screwed back up. The clamp wasnt sitting correctly.

BBQ,BBQ ??? Lucky Uk bastids..It's been ****in rain all day here and more forecast for all of next week:eek::eek:Just back from the weekly trip to the eatin place and the roads are waterlogged.
Sometimes, I do miss the Mother Country :violin:

Yi, I did that. No leaks that I could spot. Took a while for the air to bleed out of the cooling system though. Noticed that one of the bulbs on the information centre seems to have snuffed it hence my query.

Sorry Irish. It's been about 28 degrees here all day today with the sun blasting down. Lovely! Glad I parked in the shade!! Might try and sort the aircon tomorrow while I've got all my tools out. Got my bolts to jam the compressor clutch as you suggested...

Could do with some rain actually. The lawn looks like a dust bowl!

I'm not very popular with the missus though. Borrowed her portable radio while I was working and the door slammed shut on the aerial. It's now a very interesting shape!

Kooky,

Glad it went well. I had the occasional bulb out in the instrument binacle after doing the job, but after tapping the unit a few times with finger, they have all come on again and stayed that way!

I'll give it a go - some of them look a bit blackened though so I could probably do with replacing all of them sometime but there's bleeding hundreds of em!
Still, it's not too much of a problem to remove the panel again.

Having fun trying to remember which screw goes where now - so much for my cunning method of storing them all in seperate baccy tins! I've managed to drop one down the side of the seat too - impossible to retrieve :(

Ah well off to the local diy store now to see if I can find some duct tape that works...
