Hello everyone first post so be gentle. . . .to cut a long story short bought a p38 a month ago 1996 4.6 auto hse.A few niggles but ok although would idle at about 1100 in park and 900 in gear.two days ago had lpg tartarini fitted. While in garage mechanic said my idle air control valve (stepper motor) was disconnected and the multiplug fitting was damaged.I bought and fitted new one but now it idles at 2200 and sits at 1100 when in gear but stationary whether on lpg or petrol.Took it to dealership they said computer cant communicate with ecu so im a bit paddle less up a certain creek . . . anybody's ideas would be much appreciated. . . .thanks.

Did the dealership have any ideas about the comms issue, its often caused by a corroded plug where the A/C drains are blocked.Till you can get it to talk to Testbook you cant do much with it.

Dealer just said they would have to start wiring checks and check back with me every hour to see if i wanted them to keep trouble shooting . Sound like the plug cos i did have a blocked a/c drain issue which i resolved but water may have got to the plug. Will do some more investigation tonight thanks for reply eightinavee.

If you put your location in your profile someone on here can recommend a local independant specialist who will trace the problem for about a quarter of the cost of a main stealer. If the ECU itself is gubbed, get a replacement Optimax one from RPi Engineering - "RPi Engineering - Specialised Rover Engines" - got their dual fuel 50kV Ignition amp and Optimax ECU on my 3.9 :D

Raz is yer man to talk to - he's in your neck of the woods (raz8550tdi), he can recommend a sensibly priced person to run some diagnostics.

Hi,

I have same problems of difficulties to communicate.
I went to 3 different testbook and no one wants to communicate.
How your story ended?
Did they find the solution to communicate with the ECM?
