Hi all

My heater inlet hose let go today ('99 4.0 THOR). This happened outside Halfords of all places and one of the wiper fitters there fashioned me a bit of hose to get home from his spares package. Chap!

Anyway - going to replace a few hoses in the engine bay now as they are all old. Looking at Autopost and Rimmer Bros - huge difference as usual between Land rover part and aftermarket (£20 V £3 in most cases)

Anyone have experience of these? I nearly always opt for 'genuine' for peace of mind (I'm weak) but looking at the ones that came off the car I might be stupid not to just buy aftermarket. Anyone got any thoughts.

Cannot imagine they would last 7 times as long. Easy job too.
 
I have used both OEM and Aftermarket hoses....

AM hoses do feel a little cheaper but do the job, if they last half aslong and are a 5th of the price you can afford to change them out a couple of times and still be cheaper than OEM by the time an OEM hose will turn brittle.
 
I replaced a heater inlet hose once with a cheapo but found that when engine got really hot like when towing my caravan it would weep slightly because I think they go to soft, so have replaced ALL hoses with OEM, much better quality .
 
OEM all the way for cooling system. They are more expensive but you just do the job once... When you change the cheaper ones say three times you also have to replace the coolant which you need to factor in... suddenly its not so cheap. Just my opinion.

You don't stick a 5 litre container under the radiator drain? That antifreeze stuff is £20 a pop!
 
Thanks all. Will pick some genuine items up. For bleeding am I right in saying that I should fit the inlet pipe, fill the coolant, run the system and connect the return pipe once I get some coolant coming through and then allow the system to run and air to escape through the vent pipe by the screw cap?
